Local radio station awarded 8,700 Lottery grant

For immediate release, 28 March 2007. Local radio station Whitchurch FM is delighted to announce that it has been awarded a Lottery grant of £8,700 to be used for the purchase of a professional broadcast sound mixing desk.

Maggie White, press officer for Whitchurch FM and one of the presenters, said “This is tremendous news and goes to show that all our efforts during last September’s broadcast helped to make our application successful. This new mixing desk, incorporating state-of-the-art technology, will provide greatly improved facilities for our technical staff and volunteer presenters.”

The award comes just in time for the radio station, as it has just received the new licences allowing it to broadcast to the town from 6th to 15th April, with a full ten days of music, local news, interviews and outside broadcasts in and around Whitchurch. All the local issues and points of interest will be aired, aiming to bring the community together and promote Whitchurch with all that the town has to offer.

Broadcasting on 87.9FM, it all kicks off in style from 6am on the Friday morning with Kev B’s Breakfast Show, and then the Whitchurch FM Roadshow moves outdoors from 0900–1100 at Victoria Garage. At the roadshow you will be able to enter a competition to win a £100 voucher towards a holiday sponsored by WorldChoice Travel. There will be a chance to meet the presenters and Maggie White will be talking live on air to local personalities and some of the sponsors of this broadcast. There will be a bouncy castle for the children and Victoria Garage are offering a family test drive on some of their vehicles, so come along enjoy the fun. There will be lots of things to do and, of course, loads of the very best music in town.

This whole broadcast period is being sponsored by the many businesses in and around Whitchurch that have taken advertising space. The radio station is run purely by volunteers and now has more than 20 presenters as well as six technical staff. The broadcast runs for ten days from the 6th to 15th April and will require a tremendous effort from all of the volunteers to ensure that Whitchurch receives a first-class broadcast. You can also contact the radio station via the website on www.whitchurchfm.co.uk, or by telephoning 01939 220537.
